Hey, fellow screen scribblers -

I don't know if this is the proper address to reach all of you with an idea
for commentary. But, here goes.

I teach screenwriting. ('nuf credentials)

I have stored in my cerebral memory bank a number of little moments in film
which I think of as "throat-lumpers."

Let me give you an example:

In the movie "Priest" there is a scene where the young gay cleric has been
caught doing a number with a pickup guy in a car and is brought before a
grim old sergeant. When the officer asks what his profession is, the man
says "parish priest." Well, sitting there, I knew the whole weight of the
Mother Church was going to fall on the poor bastard in the persona of this
old cop. Instead he winks and says, "Well...ye little divil ye!" And the
whole audience gave a gasp and then began to laugh stertorously.

Now, help me pin down another one. In this scene somebody is taking an old
man in a ride in his car. The old man has, probably, Alzheimers', and he
keeps on repeating in a singsong voice a TV ad slogan for Toyota. It's
"(....something...something)..ho! ho! Toyota!" Whoever wrote that produced
a scene of fucking genius! What movie was it? What was the actual jingle?

And...do you have a favorite throat-lumper?

Fraternally,

El Chingon de San Miguel, Mexico
