Women's Studies at UC Davis is searching for a new faculty position this
year. The description follows:

Gender, Colonialism, and Postcoloniality

The Women's Studies Program at the University of California, Davis,
invites applications for a tenure-track professor at an open rank,
effective July 1, 1999 and pending final administrative approval. [note:
final administrative approval is almost definite now, but we will probably
have to hire at the assistant professor level.]
Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses,
serving on dissertation committees, and community and department service.
UC Davis seeks candidates with a strong promise of scholarly productivity
and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. A Ph.D. and teaching
experience are required. Publications are also required, commensurate with
rank.

We seek a scholar who explores key dimensions of gender in relation to
colonialism, nationalism, postcoloniality, and globalization, and who links
issues of colonialism, imperialism, and Third World Nationalism on the one
hand, and of race, ethnicity, gender, and multiculturalism on the other,
and who attempts to place these often ghettoized histories and discourses
in productive relation to each other. Rather than segregating historical
periods and geographical regions into neatly fenced-off areas of expertise,
such a scholar would explore their interconnectedness through gender
studies. This scholar will help to cement our prominence in gender and
global studies.

Please send a letter of application, CV, sample of written work, and a
list of referees to Professor Belinda Robnett, Women's Studies Program,
University of California, Davis, CA, 95616. The position is open until
filled. To ensure consideration, all materials should be postmarked no
later than December 1, 1998.

The University of California, Davis, and the Women's Studies Program are
interested in candidates who are committed to the highest standards of
scholarship and professional activities and to the development of a campus
climate that supports equality and diversity. The University of California
is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
