LECTURER IN FILM STUDIES
 
Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Film Studies in
the Division of Humanities, available 1 October 1998.
 
Applicants should have a PhD in Film Studies, or a related area such as
Media Studies, and a significant publication record or demonstrated
potential for research and publication. A commitment to innovative teaching
and thinking is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to
teach introductory courses in film history and criticism and to develop
upper-level specialized topics informed by theory.
 
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the disciplinary
study of cinema and to engage in the development of interdisciplinary
programmes such as Media Studies and Visual Culture. Skills in applying new
multimedia information technologies to teaching and research would also be
desirable.
 
The Film Studies programme is a rapidly expanding area that combines
teaching and expertise from a number of departments such as Russian,
German, Chinese, Japanese, Women's Studies and Art History. With this new
appointment, the programme will be able to offer a BA in Film Studies, and
work towards the introduction of programmes at Honours and postgraduate
level.
 
Initial appointment will be at an appropriate step on the lecturer scale
within the range NZ$43,750-NZ$54,250 per annum, according to qualifications
and experience. (Exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered
for appointment at a higher level.)
