A conference on:
 
Technology and Film Aesthetics
 
The University of Montana, Missoula
September 17-20, 1998
 
The film studies committee of The University of Montana invites submissions
for a conference on Technology and Film Aesthetics which will be held in
conjunction with the Five Rivers Film Festival, September 17-20, 1998.  The
festival is a celebration of film technology and those who have mastered
it.  The festival will bring in filmmakers, cinematographers, and sound and
lighting technicians.  Films will be screened and discussed by the artists
who made them.  The associated conference will focus on the relationship
between technology and its impact on film narrative and aesthetics.  We are
particularly interested in works devoted to film technology and its
historical impact on the creation of a realist, modernist or postmodernist
aesthetic, and how these different aesthetic norms influence the reception
of films by viewers.
 
Interested participants should send three copies of an abstract by May 30,
1998 to:
