Two Faculty Positions
 
Telecommunication and Film Department
College of Communication
University of Alabama
 
The Telecommunication and Film Department seeks full time faculty for two
positions, beginning fall 1998:
 
Position #1:
 
A tenure-track assistant professor to teach graduate and undergraduate
courses and conduct  research in electronic media, emphasizing programming,
program management and  program analysis.   Preferred secondary teaching
areas include research methods, broadcast journalism and departmental
introductory/service courses.  Candidates should have an earned doctorate
and demonstrated potential for teaching and research, including advising
graduate students.
 
Position #2:
 
Instructor/assistant professor to teach video production, including field
and studio production and video editing (analog and digital).  Requires
appropriate video production experience. Preferred secondary teaching areas
include audio production, including digital editing, multimedia and
interactive media production, broadcast news production and film
production.  This position may be structured two ways:  as a renewable
contract appointment for which a masters degree is required, or as a
tenure-track faculty appointment requiring an earned doctorate and
potential for research/creative activity and graduate student advising.
 
Salaries are nationally competitive and appointments begin August 1998.
 
Established in 1940, the Department has approximately 400 majors and is one
of four academic departments in the College of Communication, which
includes doctoral and masters programs and the Institute of Communication
Research.  The College also houses the Department's video and audio
production teaching studios and student radio station, as well as the
professional production facilities of the Center for Communication and
Educational Technology and the state's Center for Public Television and
Radio.
 
The University of Alabama, established in 1831 in Tuscaloosa, is the
state's oldest university, a comprehensive research institution of nearly
20,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students in 56 doctoral programs
and nearly 100 masters programs. Tuscaloosa is a university-oriented
community of nearly 100,000 located about forty minutes west of the
Birmingham metro area and a morning's drive from the Smokey mountains, Gulf
Coast beaches, New Orleans, Nashville and Atlanta.
