I haven't been following this line of discussion until now, so I risk
providing some redundant information here:  Lily Tomlin appears alone,
albeit as an ensemble of characters, in both the stage and screen versions
of *The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe* (stage
version, 1980s; film, 1991); and Sandra Bernhardt performs a one-woman show
in the film *Without You I'm Nothing* (1990, which I believe also
originated as simply a stage act), though the emphasis on the announcer and
the audience members (not to mention the band) might undermine its status
as a record of a solo performance.  At least another of Tomlin's one-woman
shows, an HBO special from the late 1970s that recorded a stage
performance, was at one point, and perhaps still is, available on video.
Also, a number of solo performances by contemporary female comics often
appear on U.S. cable television, Janeane Garofolo's HBO special being a
prominent recent example, and are often later released on video.  Allan
