AFI FILM FESTIVAL TO PRESENT PORTION OF ITS PROGRAM ON THE INTERNET

LOS ANGELES, Calif (Thursday, October 23, 1997)- Making it a truly
international event, the 11th annual AFI Los Angeles International Film
Festival, which begins October 23 in Hollywood, will feature a special
festival venue online , presenting a portion of its programming on the AFI
Website.
 
As the newest venue added to Los Angeles' most prominent and popular film
festival, on October 27 the award-winning AFI OnLine will begin screening
13 short films from around the world, all of which are included in the
festival's competition category.

AFI OnLine <www.afionline.org> is one of the Internet's most popular and
comprehensive sites for film, television and new media information and
resources.  In addition to general information about AFI's 30 years as the
nation's main arts organization dedicated to the moving images, the site
include CineMedia, the Internet's largest film and media directory with
links to more than 16,000 sites worldwide, and the definitive collection of
renowned director Martin Scorsese.  Last January, the site launched AFI
OnLine Cinema, supported by VDOnet, which became the first online movie
theater to screen classic Hollywood movies.  To date, AFI OnLine Cinema has
generated a global audience of more than 150,000 people from over 70
countries.
