To combine two recent inquiries into one:
Have a look at Thomas Schatz's essay "The New Hollywood", chapter 1 of _Film
Theory Goes to the Movies_; it provides a good insight into the blockbuster
phenomenon. This book, which I have used to great success in the second
half of my intro film course, also has a good essay by Dudley Andrew called
"The Unauthorized Auteur Today".
