Joshua Hirsch asks:
"What does the name of Oshima's 1960 film NIGHT AND FOG IN JAPAN mean, and
where did it come from? I haven't seen the film."
 
 
It is a reference to the Resnais film, but Oshima said he had not actually
seen the prior film before making his.  In any event, it is still meant to
evoke a situation of totalitarian control (not necessarily the Holocaust,
or a holocaust, per se).
