There is a very interesting film from Quebec with that subject. Il is
called La Dame en couleurs, and it is directed by Claude Jutra. Other
information available in the Internet Movie Database.
 
The Story: In the 50s, many orphans are raised by catholic nuns in a
psychiatric hospital becouse there is no place for them in orphanages. Some
of them explore the basements and find a way to escape...
