        The most personal account I have read is:
        SALT OF THE EARTH by Herbert Biberman, Beacon Press, 1965
 
It is also the title of the film Biberman directed, which won France's
International Grand Prize for best picture of 1955, but could not find
a U.S. distributor since he and others connected with the film had been
black listed.
