There is a wonderful unseen character in the Iranian (?) film, "The White
Balloon"--a real -time story of a little girl who wants a fancy goldfish
with which to celebrate New Year's. Her father is heard bossing the family
about from the shower but never seen; yet we get a pretty good picture of his
relation to the rest of the family from that trope. liz weis prof. film cuny
