I'm surprised no-one has brought up the Dickens films: Great Expectations
(Magwitch) and David Copperfield (debtors' prisons) and the various versions
of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Many of the great Victorian were social
activists, and proson reform was one of their pet projects. Looks like we
need them again.
