Call For Entries For the Fourth Annual Chicano/Latino and Native American
Student Film and Video Festival - Cine Estudiantil '97
Cine Estudiantil '97, March 18-22, 1997, CA. The Centro Cultural de la Raza
is proud to present the Fourth Annual Student Film and Video Festival - Cine
Estudiantil '97. As the largest annual Chicano/Latino and Native American
film and video festival in Southern California, Cine Estudiantil has in the
past three years provided the San Diego and Tijuana border region with the
rare and wonderful opportunity to see over 160 award-winning films/videos by
students from throughout Latin America and the United States.
We are currently seeking submissions for our fourth annual festival and would
like students to submit their latest work. As in previous years, Cine
Estudiantil '97 will include screenings throughout the San Diego and Tijuana
community, discussions with filmmakers, and a catalogue of all films and
videos screened! In addition, this year's festival will include a special
showcase of recent Latino feature films.
Selection Process: A panel of distinguished curators from the San Diego and
Tijuana community will select the films and videos to be screened during the
festival. The curators will be looking for the following to determine entry
into the festival: 1. Works made 'By', 'about', or 'for' the Chicano/Latino
and Native American community. 2. Artistic Merit (Work shows technical
and/or aesthetic excellence in the use of such elements as screenplay,
cinematography, sound, lighting, etc.). 3. Made by any student enrolled in
an educational institution during the time of production. 4. Produced
between 1994-1996. Formats: 35mm, 16mm (preview on cassette), 3/4", 1/2".
Entry Fee: $10 handling fee payable by check or money order to Centro
Cultural de la Raza. Deadline: November 30, 1996.
Cine Estudiantil '97 is co-sponsored by San Diego State University's
Associated Students, CASE, and the Centennial Committee; Universidad Autonoma
de Baja California; and El Centro Cultural Tijuana. The Centro Cultural de
la Raza's programming is made possible with support from the City of San
Diego's Commission for Arts and Culture, the National Endowment for the Arts,
