Re auteurs: what about Charlie Chaplin? If one of the essential
elements of auteur theory is the assuption that a film can be
analyzed in terms of the psychology and philosophy of its creator,
Chaplin's oeuvre would qualify more than most other filmmakers since
he wrote, produced, directed, composed the music and acted in all
of his major films.
