A query for those of you involved in the academic world of Film Studies.

How have you approached the issue of production in your programs? That
is, do you focus solely on theory and analysis or do you also support
student work in the making of movies? If you deal with the technical
side as well, how do you handle facilities? High-tech production and
editing equipment? Video only? Studio space?

The background here is: Connecticut College(Small liberal arts, private)
is exploring the expansion of our Film Studies minor (essentially
interdisciplinary theory courses) into a Film Major. There is great
student interest in the film-making side as well as the theoretical side.
We are looking to discover how other institutions have dealt with this
problem. Any feedback, including snailmailing catalog copy would be
helpful as we negotiate this minefield with the administration. Feel free
to email privately or publicly.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
