Try Fatty Arbuckle's MISS FATTY'S SEASIDE LOVER (1915) or Harold Lloyd's
SPIT-BALL SADIE (1915) if you can find them. There's lots of female
cross-dressing of course, Marlene Dietrich in MOROCCO and BLOND VENUS
(1930, 1932) and Katherine Hepbrn in SYLVIA SCARLET (1936) are among the
most frequently cited and readily available examples.
