If you post responses to the list, I will make sure they get forwarded to
Elliott. Also, could some kind soul out there forward this to SCREEN-L?

Thanks,
Bonnie Howard

As part of a course on "The West of the Imagination," I am hoping to
splice together clips from western movies (broadly defined) showing
Mexicans and Mexican society. There are obvious starting points: the
opening sequence in "Red River," the famous "badges" scene in "Treasure
of Sierra Madre," on up to "The Wild Bunch," etc.

The purpose is to show variations of these cliched images, first, so
they can be discussed in the context of the traditional east-to-west
mythic West and, second, to introduce alternate mythic approaches to the
region from a south-to-north perspective, perhaps using "El Norte" as a
"western" as "northern."

If any of you can think of good examples of Mexican images in
westerns, I would greatly appreciate your suggestions. Feel free to post
to me privately if you wish. I'll be happy to compile and post a list of
replies if any others on H-West are interested.

Thanks in advance for any help.
