In addition to the hand cranking of cameras, projectors were also hand
cranked. It was not unusual for the last show of the day to be shown
at faster speed. There was in general resistance to mechanized drives
on the part of camera operators and projectionists who felt that their
independence as "artists" would be impinged by standard speeds.
