my documentary picks...
 
nanook of the north is excellent because it reveals itself (as a narrative
construct) in so many ways.
 
frederick wiseman's ZOO - excellent because of the self-reflexivity -
lots of shots of spectators with cameras videotaping animal
activity...also great because, unlike most animal documentaries, it
resists attempts at anthropomorphizing discourse that is characteristic
of most animal documentaries.
 
and something called "Marjo" - i think is the title - which follows the
disaffection of a young - very young - evangelical from his
evangelism...another self-reflexive documentary in which the film crew
plays a narrative role.
