The audio tape played throughout The Conversation ("He'd KILL us if
he had the chance") gets inflected differently at the end of the film
("He'd kill US if he had the chance," which suggests that either the
audience is hearing the ostensibly "objective" recording through
Harry Caul's ears or that some other authorial source is manipulating
information.
