Interesting thread.  Taking "narrator" as voice-over rather than just
the motivator of the images provides some interesting issues.  Often
the naive or biased narrator is contradicted by the images--which are
somehow even more "objective" in contrast to the unreliable speaker.
Case in point:  "Badlands" with its naive narration spoken by Sissy
Spacek's character.  At one point she tells us Kit has told her to "sit
back and enjoy the scenery" as we see barren land.  She is regularly
unaware of the irony suggested by the images.  Another type of disparity
is provided by the camera in the films of Ophuls.  "Letter from an Unknown
Woman" provides a romantic version of events in the voice of the female
narrator and a camera that sometimes leaves the characters to explore
