I don't know what your definition of "women" you are using (as far as age),
but the writer/director of "Antonia & Jane" also made "Oranges are Not the
Only Fruit," about a pre-adolescent/adolescent friendship. Along the same
lines, there's "Heavenly Creatures" which I thought had lots to say about
"friendship," or at least about how and why relationships (for better or
worse) develop. Good luck.
