BRIAN TAVES <[log in to unmask]>

mentioned KING OF THE KHYBER RIFLES with Tyrone Power as a half-caste
(Indian and white). In closing, Taves also mentioned:

> A year later King also directed
> LOVE IS A MANY-SPLENDORED THING, this time with a tragic
> love-affair between a white man and an Asian woman (played by
> Jennifer Jones, just as Tyrone Power was supposed to be Indian).

Two comments: first Jennifer Jones' character (Han Suyin) is actually
"Eurasian," half Chinese and half white, and therefore bears yet another
similarity to the earlier film. Second, while the fact that Power as a man
of color romances a white woman inverts the formula (white male adventurer
romances woman of color) somewhat, his "parentage" repeats the standard
formula insofar as his father was white and his mother a woman of color.
