Why not try The Cinema Book, edited by Pam Cook and published by the British
Film Institute. You may find it rather helpful, though a bit heavy in the
theoryside. Try Film Art: An Introduction, by Bordwell and Thompson. This book
 is
more about the technical side of cinema and history. You should be able
to order these books from any good bookshop.

Hope this helps.
