                ANNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY POSITION
 
VISITING PROFESSOR or INSTRUCTOR (depending on degree).  Specialization
in film and television studies and video production.  Beginning August
28, 1995.  Qualifications include the following: a Ph.D. (or completion
during 1995 - 96 academic year) in film and television history, theory,
and criticism; background in cultural studies essential and international
research areas preferred.  Candidates should have demonstrated a
significant record of strong teaching, scholarly research, creative work,
and a potential for publication.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
        Responsibilities will include directing the Duke in Los Angeles
Program at the University of Southern California in the spring semester
and teaching at Duke University in the fall semester.  In Los Angeles,
responsibilities will include supervision of internships as well as
teaching.  Candidates should have experience with studio television
production as well as low-end video.  Some expertise in 16mm film
production is useful.
 
GENERAL INFORMATION
        The Duke in Los Angeles Program is jointly sponsored by the
Institute of the Arts and the Program in Film and Video.  For the past 12
years, the Institute has run the successful Duke in New York Program as
well as certificate program in the arts.  The Institute also produces and
presents performance and visual arts events, including a contemporary
performance series, a series of world music, dance, and theater, a
modern and contemporary dance series, and other interdisciplinary
initiatives.
        The Program in Film and Video is an interdisciplinary
certificate program enrolling 100 undergraduate students.  Located within
the Graduate Program in Literature, the Program supports the Literature
Program minor in Media Studies.  Core courses offered in film and video
production, German film, film history, and film theory.  Related courses
taught by faculty in 15 departments and programs.
