I don't know if this is what you'
re thinking of, but a number of films from the 1930s and 1940s relate their
opening credits to the film's narrative in some way, eg:
MY MAN GODFREY--Cast and crew names appear in city lights above skyscrapers
DINNER AT EIGHT--Credits appear as invitation cards
IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE--Credits on Christmas cards
 
Then, there are credits that appear over action--eg., STAGECOACH, where
we see the credits over shots of a stagecoach, Indians, and a cavalry
unit--all forecasting later events of the movies (the music goes along with
that).
 
There are probably many others I'm not thinking of just now.
