I am new to the internet and SCREEN-L, but saw your posting re SCREENsite and
thought that both groups would be appropriate places to post the following

                                                                   September,
1994
To Whom It May Concern:

Population Communications International and The Sopris Foundation are
co-sponsors of THE 1995 World Population Film+VideoFestival for secondary and
college students during the 1994-95 academic year. We want to encourage
students to express themselves about population growth, resource consumption,
the environment, and our common global future. Film/video are ideal media for
this because both they and these subjects are multi-disciplinary.

Looking at these related issues from a personal and global perspective can
bring together many subjects - such as world history, geography, current
events, environmental studies, religion, statistics, technology, medicine,
journalism - unified by vision and creativity into a personal film or video
statement.

Students are free to use any cinematic form - drama, animation,
image-montage, documentary, etc... and their pieces can be long or short,
fast or slow paced, etc... To help them get started, we will provide
participating schools with list of recommended research materials.

Entries to be received by 1 May, 1995. They will be juried by a
distinguished panel of environmentalists, population experts, humanists,
filmmakers, and broadcast executives who may include Lester Brown, Tim
Wirth, Noel Perrin, Donella Meadows, Robert Gardner, Ted Turner, Jane Fonda,
Barbara Pyle, and Jacques Cousteau.

Winners to be announced on 30 May, 1995. The Festival offers cash prizes to
the top three entries: 1st place: $ 1,500; 2nd place: $ 1,000; 3rd
place: $ 500. Winners and honorable mention entries will tour secondary
schools nationwide, and may be broadcast on MTV, VH-1, Turner, and Public
television networks with the collective title: "The Future Through Teenage
Eyes."

This festival is an extension of an ongoing program begun last year by The
Sopris Foundation called "Pop-Ed," in which population-environment experts
visit secondary schools, speaking with students and teachers. This will
continue in the coming school year, and we are offering this creative
film/video challenge to add an "active" component to the learning process -
hopefully making it more exciting, enjoyable, and rewarding.

Please post the above announcement and make sure potentially interested
students are aware of this unique opportunity for independent study and
self-expression. For further information - and to let us know which schools
are participating - please contact us via mail, fax, or E-Mail at the address
below. Thank you for your attention and assistance, which is vital to the
success of this project. We look forward to hearing from you soon and to
working with you in the coming year.

            Sincerely,
            Rawn Fulton, producer
