Indeed other cultures have their "Smithee" types, but not always for the same
reason. I've been trying to make a list of the Indian directors as they turn
up. It's especially difficult with South Indians, who often use only one name
and then as they become recognized will lengthen it (Ravi = Ravi Guptan) or
change it. Actors do this too. If an actor is having a hard time, he/she may
change the name to something more auspicious, or add a letter (D. Warwicke did
this here).
 
Confusing, yes.
