Thanks for the info on the SCREEN-L archives...

At the bottom of your post, you have placed the following quote:

No matter where you go, there you are.
                                            --Buckaroo Banzai
==================================================

Are you a BB fan? I have always felt this was one of the most underated
superhero films of the decade and very worthy of a sequel (as much so as any
of the Mad Max films, Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, etc.). It starred
a Pre-Robocop Peter Weller, pre-Big Easy Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow,
Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Goldblum.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the story, Bucaroo Banzai is the
scion of American and Japenese parents. He becomes a world famous
neurosurgeon, race car driver, Samurai warrior and all around good guy
superhero (when spied running down the street after the villian someone in
the crowd shouts out "Look! It's Buckaroo Banzai!" and the bystanders break
into cheers and applause). He stumbles upon a clue that uncovers the fact
that the "fictional" Martian invasion of Downer's Grove in Welles' War of the
Worlds, was not fictional and really occured. Of course, he must save the
world and get the girl.

My favorite moment in the film is when the President of the US (who takes
BB's call the instant it is announced) opens a special envelope when advised
that the aliens are going to attack. In it is a document entitled
"Declaration of War: The Short Form". The image lasts for about a split
second, but always gets a big laugh from me.

See it and let me know what you think.
