A bit more accurately:  Bresson started out directing before
the New Wave generation did, but he did roughly the same number of
films before and after 1959 (5 before '59, 1 in '59, 7 after, by my
count).  And he was considerably older (born in 1907) than Godard,
Truffaut, et al.
