Kinsella's book _Shoeless Joe_ certainly treats baseball as a central
cultural myth, but a more explicitly mythic exploration of baseball,
in fiction anyway, can be found in R. Coover's _Universal Baseball
Association_. I believe there's a collection by various fiction
writers which examines baseball from the same perspective, though the
title escapes me.
