A Hemingway story was adapted -- I think it was called "The Killers."  It
was a great short story about two killers waiting in a diner to murder a
guy, but he never showed up, so they left.  I think when it was filmed,
they just shot the short story verbatim as the opening of the movie, then
made up the rest of the movie.
