Probably the most famous tunnel shot in the cinema is the ending of
NORTH BY NORTHWEST, right after Cary Grant pulls Eva Marie Saint up onto
his bunk. Hitchcock used to joke that this was the one Freudian
symbol in his films. (It's a pretty quick shot. Might not serve your
purpose.)
On a completely different note, much of that Tim Robbins film about the
psycho Vietnam vet (man! I'm drawing a blank on the title!) is set
in a subway tunnel.
And several mining disaster films (e.g., KAMERADSCHAFT) involve scenes
of tunneling--but that's probably the wrong kind of tunneling...
And then there's the tunnels in THE GREAT ESCAPE and GRAND ILLUSION...
Don't mind me. I'll just free-associate for a while...
