TELEVISION AND/OR FILM STUDIES
The University of Warwick in the UK seeks a lecturer in television and/or
film studies to teach in the Joint School of Film and Literature.
 Responsabilities will include teaching a core undergraduate course, but staff
 are also encouraged to develop teaching more immediately related to their
 research. The
School is currently discussing its undergraduate programme in the areas of
televisionnn and non-western media, and preference will be given in the first
instance to candidates with an interest in television studies. The person
apppoited would also be expected to contribute in some years to the teaching of
the MA in Film and Television Studies and to supervise graduate theses in the
 areas of their interest and competence. Our main concern is to appoint someone
equally committed to research/publication and teaching. Position starts Oct.

Further Particulars for Lectureship in Film Studies (Ref. A93/61)
 
The Post
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Film Studies to join
a Board of Studies committed to the study of film and the cinema as specific
social, cultural and aesthetic phenomenon with a distinct history and a
distinct tradition of accompanying criticism, theory, study and debate. This
commirtttment is evident in the range of Film Studies courses offered at both
undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In the recent introduction of a Single
Honours Film Studies programme (which includes a Film Production option, and
 which is the first of its kind in the country); and last but not least, in the
facilities for teaching and study available at Kent: a 100 seat audiotrium
 equipped with dual-guage, variable speed 35mm and 16mm projectors; dedicated
seminar rooms with flatbed editing tables enabling shot-by-shot study of
films; a range of 16mm production equipment, plus various video faciltiies.
   The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to either or both
of our core courses (Introduction to Narrative Cinema and Film Theory). He or
she will also be able to offer or to develop a further specialism, and thus
be able either to contribute to the teaching of our established range of
options or else to teach a new one. Some contribution to our MA courses will
also be expected.
  All academic staff in the University are expected to conduct original
 research. The sucessful candidate will be joining a Board with a very high
 reputation
for research and publication in the field of Film Studies, to which it is
expected that he or she will contribute. Administration duties are shared
 amongst the academic staff of the Board of Studies and the person appointed
 will be
required to carry out such duties as may be assigned by the Chair of Film
Studies. All members of the academic staff act as tutors of undergraduate
students and may supervise postgraduate students.
  The succesful applicant is likely to have undertaken the study of Film at
postgraduate level and also to have some teaching experience.
 
 
GENERAL
 
The salary will be ont he Lecturer Grade A scale (L13,601-L18,856). The post is
 available from October 1st. Interviews are likely to take place in early
September, and it is recognized that the successful applicant may not be
able to take up the post until Jan. 1 1994.
