I am a telecommunications major at Kent State University in Ohio
and I am trying very desperately to pull together my senior project in the
hopes of graduating at some point in my life. I am replying to the soup/
soap discussion b/c 1. it is one of the more scholarly topics being discussed
2. I am not so good with my e-mail yet as to send an independent posting.
I am in need of any and all information about the following topics:
Survivors of sexual assault and the right to privacy from intrusive media
reporting.
Effects of media reporting on survivors of sexual assault
Applications of the utilitaaian model of ethics to media and reporting
practice.
Any other topic that could remotely apply to my thesis which in a long formal
and boring way tries to support the idea that because survivor's privacy rights
are not protected by the constitution (as the right of reporters to report
the truth is)reporters have an ethical obligation to protect this privacy, when
ever possible. If reporters treat survivors with respect and self restraint,
eventually a more socially responsible and thorough discussion of these issues
will occur. My eventual goal is to be able to set up some type of functional
model of ethical behaviors.
I am especially interested in any type of this info. that relates directly
to tv reporting of these issues.
Any assistance in this will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
