The film with Richard Gere and Sam Shepherd is DAYS OF HEAVEN,
directed by Terrence Malick.

Linda Mainz plays the young girl, and Brooke Adam is the
"sister."

I like this film. Nestor Almendros photographed it and won an
Academy Award. The late scenes include footage by Haskell
Wexler, who stepped in after Almendros went to another film.

Dialogue is minimal, but images and sounds are wonderful.
Visuals of the ranch house sitting amidst the wheat fields
reminded me of Andrew Wyeth, but I especially enjoyed interior
shots inside the ranch house because of Almendros' use of shadows
and lighting.

In keeping with the setting, the sounds are somewhat muffled.

The story is full of irony.

I suspect that it didn't do better at the box office because the
film has an European quality.

Anyway, the title is DAYS OF HEAVEN.
