Re the TNT broadcast of a letterboxed _Forbidden Planet_: it's my hunch that
--besides being surprising for TNT--this broadcast may have been occasioned
by or used the recent MGM transfer done for their laserdisc version of the
film. One could probably verify that by checking the framing against the disc
and (for complete certainty) against the Criterion version of the disc, which
has slightly different (and more accurate) 'boxing, though inferior color. I
noticed that broadcast, but didn't look to closely... which is too bad, since
I have the Criterion disc already. Jeff Clark
