As of 1 July 1991, the AFI library is now closed due to budget cuts. Three
staff positions were cut, and the library is operating on a skeleton staff.
Many of the library's collections cannot be duplicated anywhere else,
including 7 boxes of Fritz Lang papers and many papers of Charles Feldman,
talent agent.
Gladys Irvis of the AFI library suggests that researchers write to Jean
Firstenberg at the AFI, 2021 N. Western Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90027 on
department letterhead (make sure you cc Gladys at the library--same address).
The AFI's relationship with the academic community has been strained, at best.
If enough people contact Ms. Firstenberg about this latest gaffe, perhaps AFI
can begin improving this relationship by reopening the library instead of
emphasizing its role as industry lackey.
