I'm not sure if you want only info on the portrayal of British in American films
or a more general relationship.  If the latter, I recall reading something --
I think it was a chapter in a book of the past five years -- which discussed
the casting of two Brits in GONE WITH THE WIND as an intentional device.
 
(BTW, RUGGLES OF RED GAP was 1935, not 1930)
