With my apologies for cross-posting, please allow me to bring your attention to several opportunities to join the faculty of the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University.

We have three Professor of Practice positions currently open:


  1.  Assistant Director of the Thomas Jay Harris Institute for Hispanic and International Communication (HIHIC) and Assistant Professor of Practice in Hispanic Media

Here we welcome applications from a wide variety of professional, research, and educational backgrounds in media and communication (journalism, strategic communication, documentary, creative production, communication studies, etc.), provided applicants’ experiences and/or expertise align with the mission and values of the HIHIC.

  1.  Morris (Endowed) Visiting Professor of Practice in Emerging Journalism Practice

The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University invites applications for a Visiting Professor of Practice in the Department of Journalism& Creative Media Industries beginning September 1, 2021 (Fall 2021). This position is offered as the Morris Professor of Emerging Journalism Practice, an inaugural fellowship seeking a faculty member who has made notable contributions to journalism in their professional career and whose experience significantly enhances our students' preparation and adaptability.

The successful candidate will be based on Texas Tech's Lubbock campus and be responsible for teaching online, hybrid, and/or terrestrial courses in the JCMI Department as assigned by the Chair. This is a 9-month position, annually renewable for two academic years, with the potential for a third year pending budget availability and performance review factors. The teaching load for this position is five courses per academic year, including one course release granted to accommodate additional demands associated with the Morris Professorship. The Morris Professorship comes with an annual operating budget of approximately $25,000 designed to support research, curriculum development, programming, grant-seeking, and/or outreach efforts related to emerging journalism practice.

  1.  Assistant Professor of Practice in Media & Communication (Generalist)

The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University seeks an Assistant Professor of Practice in Media & Communication with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching foundational courses in media and communication. The successful candidate will be able to provide evidence of outstanding teaching for undergraduate students in different class sizes and modalities, innovative student engagement activities in and outside the classroom, and exceptional experience in retention of first-in-family college students. Appointment begins September 1, 2021, with a possibility of teaching in summer 2021.

This position will be hired as a media and communication generalist who will teach foundational courses such as introduction to media and communication, digital and social media, media and popular culture, media writing, media literacy and/or media law. This position will also be available to teach courses in one or more of the following disciplines: advertising, communication studies, journalism, creative media industries, public relations, digital media and professional communication, and media strategies. We seek an energetic master teacher who will instruct seven courses per academic year, mentor students, serve as an advisor to a media and communication student organization, and be a co-leader and advocate for the needs and aspirations of core, basic and introductory high-population courses.
