Third World Newsreel Releases THE STAND-BY GENERATION

Documentary about Precarious Work in Puerto Rico

Third World Newsreel is pleased to announce the educational release of Juan
C. Dávila’s new documentary film THE STANDBY GENERATION (La generación del
estanbai).

Shot in Puerto Rico, THE STAND-BY GENERATION explores the challenges of
young workers seeking secure and stable jobs. The majority of the jobs
offered to the new generation of workers in Puerto Rico are precarious.
This documentary follows the lives of young people caught in the
‘precariat’ world of part-time and temporary under-employment devoid of
security. This new generation of university graduates is choosing to stay
in Puerto Rico despite its ongoing financial crisis, but they are forced to
struggle to survive by any means necessary as their aspirations are placed
on standby.

Winner of the Best Short Film Award at the Fine Arts International Film
Festival in San Juan, this 20-minute documentary is available for
educational and community purchases and screenings. Visit our website
