Assistant Professor of Screen Studies

Clark University
Worcester, MA
Department of Visual and Performing Arts

Deadline for Applications:
11-01-2014

Job Description:
The Screen Studies Program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Clark University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Screen Studies with expertise in the History of International Cinema, beginning Fall 2015. Candidates are expected to have a research focus on at least one non-English-language cinema, but must also be able to teach a survey of world cinema plus a range of general courses in film and media studies. We especially welcome applicants capable of teaching occasional specialized courses in video production, and/or incorporating digital production elements within traditional media studies courses. A Ph.D. is required. Clark is a private urban liberal arts-based research university committed to excellence in teaching as well as research, and ideal candidates will have demonstrated potential in both areas. Clark operates on a semester system, and the standard teaching expectation is four courses per academic year. Visual and Performing Arts [V&PA] is an interdisciplinary undergraduate department that also includes studio art, art history, music, and theater arts, so candidates are expected to explore innovative, cross-disciplinary subjects with other department faculty.

Screen Studies offers a major and a minor, and maintains a connection with Clark's program in Cultural Studies and Communication.
Complete applications (including all letters of reference) must be submitted by November 1, 2014. Please send a cover letter, CV, and three letters of recommendation, to: Prof. Hugh Manon, Chair, SCREEN SEARCH, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, Clark University, 950 Main Street., Worcester, MA, 01610.
