Ladyfest Deep South 2011: Information and Call-Out Meeting
Free screening of documentary, Ladyfesto (50 min) + Information about Ladyfest Deep South: Q&A, Discussion, + Sign-up
When: Wed, Dec. 15th @ 7:30pm
Where: Little Willie’s, Downtown (all ages welcome to attend the meeting)
http://ladyfest2011.tumblr.com/

This event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about Ladyfest Deep South—to be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, April 15-17, 2011. At this call-out, we will be screening the documentary film, Ladyfesto (50 min.), providing information about Ladyfest Deep South (with a Q & A about the fest), and signing up those interested in becoming organizers, volunteers, performers, and/or participants.

Film Screening: Ladyfesto, filmmakers Anne Crémieux and Kerry Pyne, document Ladyfest Philly, March 2003. With its start in Olympia, Washington in 2000, Ladyfest has gone global and is still going strong a decade later with locally organized festivals taking place annually all around the world. Though Ladyfest itself is a phenomenon worthy of investigation, what makes this particular Ladyfest noteworthy is that it coincided with the start of the war in Iraq. Festival organizers and participants comment on issues related to feminism, arts and crafts work, consensus-based organizing, inclusion, and accessibility, mindful of the political climate of the nation on the brink of war. This film provides an account of Ladyfest Philly and a guide to DIY political and artistic organizing. It is as compelling as it is informative and mobilizing!

Ladyfest: a not-for-profit festival of arts and activism, where bands, artists, and attendees discuss political issues, trade or sell feminist arts and crafts, attend performances, and work on political and artistic organizing
