Dear SCREEN-L members,

I am writing to introduce you to a new source for Spanish films in
North America:

PRAGDA Spanish Films is a cultural initiative devoted to bringing
Spanish Cinema to a wider audience. From classics to contemporary,
fiction to documentary, we specialize in offering the best Spanish
films through both educational distribution and public exhibition.

PRAGDA made its debut last spring with the North American release of the
6-part series CRONICA D'UNA MIRADA: CLANDESTINE FILMMAKING IN FRANCO'S
SPAIN, an extraordinary Documentary that uncovers the little-known history
of a clandestine group of anti-Franco filmmakers operating under total
secrecy in 60s and 70s Spain.

We are also the only North American distributor offer THE BASQUE BALL and MY
GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE, two of the most highly acclaimed documentaries to come
out of Spain in recent years, and the only distributor to offer them on NTSC
with public performance rights.

For more details about these films, please read on, or visit our catalog at:

I am pleased to introduce you to Pragda and I hope you will be

THE BASQUE BALL- SKIN AGAINST STONE
(La Pelota Vasca - La Piel Contra la Piedra)
By Julio Medem | Spain | 2003 |115 min | DVD | NTSC | Region 0
Spanish and Basque w/ English subtitles
================================================================

THE HIGHEST-GROSSING DOCUMENTARY OF ALL TIME IN SPAIN ‹ Now available in
North America in NTSC with public performance rights, only from Pragda.

³With over 100 interviews and reels upon reels of archive footage, La Pelota
Vasca is an incisive documentary on Spain, ETA, and the Basque region.
Director Julio Medem (Sex and Lucia, Lovers of the Arctic Circle) delivers a
fascinating overview of the torturous politics of the Basque area and the
region¹s notorious terrorist separatist group. Controversial in the extreme,
Medem¹s documentary has drawn sharp censure from the Spanish authorities,
with Spain¹s Minister for Culture branding the film "suspicious." Such a
response is typical of the passions that the Basque issue stirs up. Medem¹s
even-handed approach straddles both sides of the political spectrum,
treating the complex web of history, identity and politics surrounding his
subject with great maturity." - Jamie Russell, BBC Radio
