There were oddball films in the early 50s that
  came and went under the radar--without protests
  or cuts (I lived in a high-censorship area, and
  I noticed gaps in footage from an early
  age!)  
   
  King Vidor's RUBY GENTRY showed 
  the relationship between Jennifer Jones and
  her lover through clothes in a drawer, 
  a hand reaching up to turn off the light..
