The Department of Spanish and Portuguese invites applications for a tenure
track position in Spanish, beginning September 2008. Candidates should
demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching language courses at all levels,
as well as Hispanic literature and culture with an emphasis on Hispanic
visual culture. We are especially interested in scholars who focus on
performance and communication media, such as Hispanic cinema, television,
theater, journalism, and comics, as well as visual arts. Candidates should
be able to teach in English and contribute to the college curriculum outside
the department. Candidates should be interested in teaching students from
diverse backgrounds and producing scholarship that will enhance a diverse
faculty and curriculum. Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant
Professor (Ph.D) or instructor (ABD). Candidates should provide evidence of
commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly work. Send letter of
application with a statement of teaching interests, curriculum vitae,

current letters of recommendation, at least two of which must comment on
teaching abilities, to: Patricia Saldarriaga, Chair; Department of Spanish
