Museum of the Moving Image Symposium
Open Collections: Exploring Online Cultural Resources
June 18, 9:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Presented with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services
and the New York State Council on the Arts.

In fewer than fifteen years, the Internet has become an indispensable
part of life, work, and learning, forever changing the way information
is accessed. Museum of the Moving Image is one of many institutions in
the process of making their collections accessible on the Internet in
order to better serve the needs of scholars, students, and the general
public. Over 1,000 items from the Museum's collection are now accessible
online as part of a ten-year digitization and access initiative..

On June 18, the Museum will present a daylong symposium devoted to how
online cultural resources, especially those composed of primary-source
materials, are planned, developed, and accessed. The symposium brings
museum and library professionals together with information-technology
experts and scholars. Panelists and moderators include professionals
from leading cultural and academic institutions, including Theresa M.
Russo, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Barbara Taranto, New York Public
Library; Alexander Pasik, Guggenheim Museum; Karen Weiss, Smithsonian
Archives of American Art; Elizabeth O'Keefe, Morgan Library and Museum;
Charles Musser, Yale University; and Stephen Brier, David Gerstner, and
Paula J. Massood, City University of New York.

Registration fee: $12 (includes lunch). Call 718-784-4520 or register at
