100 Years of Chinese Cinema: A Retrospective

The College of Staten Island/City University of New
York and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, will
sponsor a Chinese Film Retrospective in October 2005
in celebration of the 100th anniversary of film
production in China.

The three-week long Chinese Film Retrospective will
include a Film Festival at Lincoln Center, screenings
and interviews at the Asia Society, CUNY-TV and China
Institute, and a Film Symposium at the College of
Staten Island/CUNY.

This centennial celebration aims to offer audiences a
survey of the history of Chinese cinema from the
silent era to contemporary works, accompanied by
academic discussions and informative interviews with
prominent Chinese filmmakers whom we have invited to
the United States. It hopes to provide audiences in
the New York Metropolitan area with the opportunity to
see a wide variety of Chinese films, some of which
have never been seen before in the US.

At the heart of the Retrospective is an international
by-invitation academic symposium at the College of
Staten Island. The Symposium will bring together
distinguished experts to CSI for a day-and-a-half
exchange on the history and current state of Chinese
cinema. More information see the Retrospective
website at www.library.csi.cuny.edu/modernchina or
