The summer issue of "Religious Humanism" (not on line, unfortuantely) had an 
article by Lynn Hunt about "The Passion of the Christ" as seen in comparison 
to other versions of the story, including those by Scorsese, DeMille, Ray, 
Stevens. 
(A note of bias might be in order here; the author is my wife...)
